schlossORTH National Park Center

Paradise. Donau-Auen National Park comprises one of Central Europe's last major intact riparian wetlands.
The park protects this sensitive landscape. With quiet strength, certitude and ever-changing water levels, the Danube is a lifeline that determines the rhythm of life in this riparian zone. The symbiosis of the habitats water and woodlands serve as home to a unique array of fauna and flora. Courted by willows whispering in the wind and oaks that have stood for centuries, this natural paradise is shared with numerous protected animal species.

Castle island - schlossORTH National Park Center
Experience life: riverside woodlands in miniature amidst animals and plants native to the Danube wetlands. An incomparable Danube garden: On the castle island, you experience characteristic habitats, animals and plants of this riparian landscape. It is home to European pond turtles, domestic snakes and frogs, the local ground squirrels known as sousliks, and fascinating insects such as wild bees, beetles and dragonflies, not to mention butterflies of all kinds.

Unique in Austria: Walk-in underwater station
Take a dive without getting wet: The walk-in underwater observation station affords a view of the diversity of water creatures in these side arms of the Danube. So quiet and tranquil on the surface, the river becomes a habitat pulsing with life under the water. On the island, children can play to their heart's content on a suspension bridge, a balancing trail and a large bird nest. Become an observer, a researcher, an adventurer.
