The Kuenringer fortress and today’s Aggstein ruins, the magnificent baroque Maria Langegg pilgrimage monastery, the little-known Dunkelsteinerwald with Buchental, and stunning panoramic views from Hoher Stein and Glauberkreuz in the Arnsdorf vineyards await us on the stage from Aggsbach Dorf to Hofarnsdorf.

Welterbesteig Wachau: From Aggsbach Dorf to Hofarnsdorf

On forest and field paths, we hike from Aggsbach Dorf up to the Aggstein castle ruins and into the Dunkelsteinerwald. Via the Maria Langegg monastery with its noteworthy museum, library, and frescoes, we reach Buchental. A short secured climbing section takes us to Hoher Stein. Here we are greeted by one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Wachau. Our path then continuously descends through Buchental—with mighty beeches on the opposite slope—to the rest area "Glauberkreuz" in the middle of the Arnsdorf vineyards. Shortly thereafter, we reach the Arnsdorf-Spitz ferry. From here it is not far until we reach our stage destination at Hofarnsdorf Castle.
