Filialkirche St. Nikolaus Wildungsmauer

The church in Wildungsmauer is a listed building and features a pure Romanesque architectural style that has many admirers. The church in Wildungsmauer is one of the many sights that Lower Austria has to offer, although it has no other "treasures" apart from the building itself.

On the outside, the church looks as if too little care had been taken with the exterior, as the bricks had not been plastered with mortar. The interior, however, has an extremely impressive effect on the viewer, as the walls are also left natural and the ashlars are not covered with plaster. The roughness of the stones draws attention to the altar. The interior of the church has thus become an expression of poverty and flight from the world, where one is not tempted to look sideways or upwards, but forwards to where the altar stands.
