The route is signposted in both directions with "Römerland Carnuntum Cycle Route 54". In the section crossing the airport, follow the signs of the airport cycle path.
Route description of the Great Round around the airport and Ellend Forest when travelling counterclockwise:
Starting from the station, you ride on a cycle path to the cycle path along the Schwechat river. Turn left and after passing under the 'B10' Bruck-Hainburg road through the town park. At the end, go through 'Altkettenhofer Straße' to the 'L2003' and cross it (Caution - traffic light). Turn right to ride next to the 'L2003' on a cycle path until turning left onto 'Zirkelweg'. This leads onto a field path crossing the motorway, then shortly turn right. This path passes the 'GC Golf Range Wien Schwechat' and later turns left towards 'Aichhof'. Continue here until crossing the 'B10' Bruck federal road (Caution - stop sign). This is 7.5 km so far.
Then 8.5 km further to Schwadorf. You ride south of the airport, past 'Katharinenhof' with views of airport operations. Then a right turn follows, and just before 'B10' turn left onto an asphalted field path to Schwadorf.
From Schwadorf to the start of Enzersdorf an der Fischa is 5 km. Ride first along the southern airport border by the fence, turn left before Klein-Neusiedl, and right before the cemetery. Turn left onto 'Katharinenhofstraße', then right onto 'Bildbaumweg', then immediately left onto 'Kellerzeile', passing wine cellars. Then left onto 'Hutweideweg' past the sports ground to the 'L156'. Cross this (Caution) to the field path 'Fischamender Straße', turn left once to the wooden bridge to cross the Fischa. Cross and turn right on the Fischatal cycle path beside 'B60' Fischamender Straße to the start of Enzersdorf an der Fischa.
At the start of Enzersdorf, cross the B60 (Caution) to continue via Julius-Raab-Gasse and Seegrabenweg to the asphalt path Ludwigshof. Then through the Enzersdorf wine cellar lane to Ludwigshof (2.5 km) and further on field paths to Arbesthal (6 km). For a long stretch, ride on Rustenbodenweg until left turn onto asphalt path Adelsberg until reaching the motorway underpass to L166. Turn right onto the cycle path to Arbesthal cellar lane. After one right and shortly afterwards left turn, you reach Jägerstraße and then turn right onto Kirchenweg to the Arbesthal church.
Past the Arbesthal church on asphalt meadow paths and Viertelswiesenweg to Göttlesbrunn (2.5 km). Cross and briefly ride L166 (Caution), turn right over bridge onto 'Am Graben', then Pfarrgasse left onto Kirchengasse. Cross Göttlesbrunn on this, to reach asphalt road 'GW Göttlesbrunn-Höflein' to Höflein (5.5 km to Höflein church). A right turn onto 'Hohen Weg' in Höflein wine cellar lane is necessary, and left up to the Kirchenberg with crossing of a side road (Caution).
From Kirchenberg steep descent onto main street (L2039). Turn left and continue on main street to the junction turning right onto asphalted 'Wienerweg'. Right turn to field path to Viehtrifft field path to Scharndorf (5.5 km).
Leave Scharndorf at the start and continue on field path 'Wiener Weg' to Regelsbrunn (2.5 km). Before railway crossing, turn left onto asphalt cycle path south of Pressburger Straße to Haslau/Donau station. Turn left there, then right onto 'Margarethner Weg' to reach Maria Ellend, then right onto Hofstraße to the station (7 km).
Before the railway crossing, turn left onto asphalt field path to the crossing of L166 (Caution) and continue on field paths to Fischamend (6.5 km). Pass under the motorway and follow 'Pfarrweg' towards Fischamend water tower. Turn left onto 'Smolekstraße' to B60; cross it to the cycle path on the right and turn left into 'Grimmgasse'. Cross 'Gregerstraße', continue on 'Fehrgasse' to the 'Drei Stegen'.
Continue on 'Fährgasse' over the four side arms of the Fischa until reaching 'L156'. Cross the railway line and main road (Caution), turn left onto 'Kirchenweg'. Then turn right into 'Feldgasse' to 'B9' Wiener Straße and turn left onto cycle path before it. This leads beside the federal road onto 'Reichstraße'. Then turn right onto 'Zeppelinstraße' and ride to the airport cycle path beside federal road and motorway. From 'Drei Stegen' to the airport is 4 km.
The crossing of the airport (3 km) is done on the airport cycle path with exact route plans for crossing at both ends of the path (Caution). You cross 'B9' at traffic lights and continue on 'Stichstraße West'.
At the end of this road, turn right onto 'L2064' to cross the Eastern motorway and just after the bridge, turn left onto the cycle path beside the motorway (CAUTION). This cycle path then turns right and leads to 'L2064', which you cross again here. Continue left on an embankment path via 'Baumeistergasse' and 'Zainethbrückengasse' turning right on 'Jägerhausgasse'. Turn left on embankment path 'Mannswörther Straße', then through green areas to the cycle path beside the Schwechat river. This leads comfortably back to the junction to the station without street crossings. It passes through four underpasses ('L2064', Eastern motorway, 'S1', and Eastern railway). The distance from the airport to the station is 7 km.
