You stay at a Best of Wachau hotel in the Wachau. These establishments offer not only excellent quality but also a genuine experience of the Wachau. In their kitchens, they rely on homemade specialty dishes made from regional products and have close ties to the farmers in the area.

On a tour, you explore the Benedictine Abbey of Melk with its Marble Hall and library as well as the Baroque abbey church. Then you can take some time for yourself on a stroll through the abbey park. The small café in the Baroque garden pavilion  is a delightful place for a break.

The legendary Aggstein castle ruin towers 300m above the Danube on a promontory with drop-offs on three sides. Take in the breathtaking views of the Wachau and the Dunkelsteinerwald forest region. On a fascinating audio guide tour, you learn all about the ruined castle, its former inhabitants and the Nibelungs exhibition covering the story of Siegfried and the treasure of the Nibelungs.

Then you visit the Schroll family in the small village of Rantenberg near Emmersdorf on the edge of this World Heritage region and find out about Wachau apricots and the superb schnapps made from them.
