This hiking trail is some 100km long and circles the wine town of Krems and the picturesque towns and villages in the Krems Valley wine region north and south of the Danube.
Your hosts provide hiker’s bag lunches for on the trail and transfer your luggage to the next accommodation.

Day 1 – Arrival
Travel on your own to Krems. Overnight stay in Krems, breakfast included.

Day 2 – Krems - Langenlois
Distance 15.7 km – Duration 4 h 45 min
Your hike begins in the historical center of Krems, at Hoher Markt with the Gothic fortress known as the Gozzoburg. Following the Wienerstrasse, you walk down In der Leithen, a cellar-lined road, passing by the Sandgrube and other well-known vineyards till you reach Rohrendorf, known as the “Front Garden of the Wachau”. You proceed through Austria’s longest cellar-lined road with 72 wine press houses to the wine town of Gobelsberg. The lookout tower there offers panoramic views extending from the Tulln Basin and Alpine foothills all the way to two major mountains, the Ötscher and the Schneeberg. After leaving Gobelsburg you arrive in Langenlois, a town famed for its wine production. During a wine tasting session at the Ursinhaus in Langenlois, you enjoy fine wines from the surrounding vineyards.

Day 3 – Langenlois - Dross - Senftenberg

The countryside you pass through today is filled with peaceful meadows, woods and vineyards. The wine towns of Lengenfeld and Stratzing have a number of inviting heurige wine taverns and cellar-lined roads with cozy wine cellars. The hike takes you by vineyards such as Sunogeln and Hochsatzen and then along a stream called Stratzingbach through a shady woods to Priel and Dross. Next to the pilgrimage church, Our Lady of Fatima, is a Romanesque castle chapel dedicated to St. George, a special landmark of the community. It contains the oldest frescoes in Austria. You proceed on forest paths to the Poberkreuz wayside cross and follow the signs to Senftenberg from there.

Day 4 – Senftenberg - Krems
Distance 9 km – Duration 2 h
The Senftenberg castle ruin and fortified church are the landmarks of this idyllic wine town and visible from far and wide. There is a wonderful view of the vineyards from the castle ruin. The route continues along the Krems River to the ruins of the 11th c. Rehberg castle. You then walk to the top of the steeply sloping Partschen vineyard and follow the signs to the left to Gasthaus Schwarzalm. After a brief rest at this local tavern with splendid views of Krems, you walk downhill through the vineyards to the center of Krems.
Before heading for home, enjoy a stroll through the medieval center and pedestrian zone in Krems with its abundance of shops, coffeehouses, and restaurants.
