In the northern part of the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe, the Dunkelsteinerwald, lies the municipality of Bergern im Dunkelsteinerwald with its 1300 inhabitants. It stretches from Unterbergern to Maria Langegg. The Celts and Romans left their mark with their roads, power and cult sites. The pilgrimage church Maria Langegg, "Maria, Heil der Kranken" with its newly built pilgrimage museum is located in the mystical heart of the region. A dense network of hiking trails and the Way of St. James, which runs over 25 km through the municipality, characterize this region.
Traditional wine culture and down-to-earth delicacies are offered all year round in wine taverns and restaurants.
