It is also known as the "Roßkircherl" by the locals. There are various explanations as to where this name comes from. The most likely is that for a long time this church was used by Danube boatmen to have their tow horses blessed there.
In any case, the church was used by many Danube boatmen to pray to the patron saint of boatmen after or before passing through the dangerous Danube sections of the Strudengau and the "Bösen Beuge". It is assumed that the square tower was given an octagonal top in the 17th century. In the choir of the church there are interesting stained glass windows from the 15th century.
