The Artstetten Castle Nature Park, perched above the mighty Danube, is considered one of Austria's most important historical parks. In this Danube garden, you stroll through history, retracing the footsteps of Emperor Franz I, the Archdukes Carl and Ludwig, and Archduke Franz Ferdinand while discovering the beauty and mysteries of a unique natural memorial. Artstetten Castle was home to Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne whose tragic death set off World War I. The castle park is a peaceful setting planted with rare fruits and berries all with aristocratic names.

A sight to behold
From May to June, more than a thousand peony plants burst into splendid bloom around the castle and throughout the castle nature park. The plants are provided by Tulln plant specialist Franz Praskac. Incidentally, his step-grandfather was in close contact with Archduke Franz Ferdinand around 1900 in connection with the imperial horticultural society.

Stroll through an Austrian chapter of world history along the Danube, enjoying scenic nature and floral splendor.
