The blue-and-white bell tower of the abbey of the Augustinian Canons in Dürnstein can be seen far and wide. The English king Richard the Lionhearted was once imprisoned in the fortress above the town, where only ruins stand today, and was not released until a ransom was paid. Dürnstein Abbey
The abbey is known for its famous blue church tower, which is visible from far and wide. The church can be visited on a guided tour; also together with an individual organ concert. www.stiftduernstein.at 

Richard Löwenherz Themed Path
The English king Richard the Lionhearted is inextricably linked with the history of Dürnstein. He was held prisoner in Dürnstein Fortress until ransom was paid and he was released. This themed path tells this story. http://themenweg.duernstein.at 

Wachau Saffron Manufactory
Ecologist Bernhard Kaar has revived the tradition of saffron cultivation near Dürnstein in the Wachau. At his manufactory, the saffron is dried and processed into various products. www.wachauer-safran.at
