Hike through the most famous vineyards in the Wachau, such as Loibenberg, Kellerberg in Dürnstein, Ried Achleiten in Weissenkirchen and of course, Singerriedl in Spitz. Proceeding along the steep terraces in the Spitzer Graben, you arrive at the Jauerling summit, where breathtaking views of the Danube Valley await you on the Danube terrace of the Hans-Pichler Nature Park Center.

Winding high above the free-flowing Danube and centuries’-old stone terraces in the Wachau wine region, the World Heritage Trail takes you through the leading vineyards along the Danube and past numerous apricot and peach orchards. In the wine villages, you can visit one of the many heurige, those down-to-earth, typically Austrian wine taverns.

Immerse yourself in a landscape shaped by human hand for over 2000 years. Pass by legendary castles and travel back in time to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Glory in nature at its most scenic, in the panoramic views of a unique river landscape. Enjoy the finest delicacies of the regional cuisine while sipping award-winning Wachau wines. These are precious moments of your life you will truly savor for years to come.

Your hosts provide a hiker’s lunch for you from regional products and transfer you luggage to the next accommodation.

The hike starts right in front of the hotel, then walk past Kloster Und, a former monastery, toward Stein. After climbing the loveliest staircase in the Wachau, walk by venerable old villas and into the picturesque vineyards, stopping time and again to enjoy the wonderful views of the Danube. Proceed along the narrow lanes to the Stein castle ruins and follow old wine trails that pass by the Höhereck. After the Kellerberg, you enter a fascinating landscape full of rock formations and woods, finding plenty of inviting spots to rest along the way. Passing through the Steiner Tor town gate you arrive in the historical center of Dürnstein, where this stage of the route ends.

Day 3 – Dürnstein - Weissenkirchen
Distance 17 km – Duration 6 h
Today’s hike starts in Dürnstein, where you can explore the medieval town on a stroll of your own. The subsequent hike takes you uphill from Dürnstein on the medieval stairs known as the Eselsteig to the Dürnstein ruin (where Richard the Lionhearted was held for ransom), to the Starhembergwarte lookout point and a restaurant known as the Fesselhütte. The Höhenweg trail to Weissenkirchen, the final destination for this stage, takes you through the most famous vineyards in the Wachau and affords you wonderful views of the Danube.
Overnight stay in Weissenkirchen, breakfast included.

Day 4 – Weissenkirchen - Spitz
Distance 10.5 km – Duration 3 h 30 min
Today’s hike begins in Weissenkirchen. You proceed via the Teisenhoferhof, a Gothic fortress district in Weissenkirchen, through famous vineyards to the Michaelerberg, a natural landmark, then through a valley called Mieslingtal, past one of the gateways of Spitz, Rotes Tor, to the town’s best-known vineyard – Ried Singerriedel and the Baroque-style church square.
In the afternoon, a wine tasting session awaits you at a winery in Spitz.
Overnight stay in Spitz, breakfast included.

Day 5 – Spitz - Mühldorf
Distance 13 km – Duration 4 h
From Spitz you cross the hill known as Tausendeimerberg (literally: “thousand bucket hill” to indicate the volume of grapes picked here annually) and enter the scenic vineyards on Setzberg. In the marvelous oak forest beyond, you pass by three shelters run by a vintners’ association called Verein Marivino (currently closed) before arriving in Muthstall. You then proceed via Niederranna to Oberranna Castle with its castle tavern. The route subsequently follows the Ötzbach on this stream’s gentle descent to Unterranna and goes from there to Mühldorf, the final destination for this stage.
Overnight stay in Mühldorf, breakfast included.

Day 6 – Mühldorf - Spitz
Distance 13.5 km – Duration 5 h
From Mühldorf you cross over the 628 m high Trenning, passing the highest-elevation vineyard in Lower Austria. Next is the 915 m high Jauerling, known as the “Roof of the Wachau”. The route proceeds via Benking through a wonderful forest landscape, passing the three hills Hirschenkogel, Zwölferkogel and Elferkogel before arriving at the Hinterhaus fortress ruin. From there, it is no longer very far to Spitz, the final destination for the day.
Overnight stay in Spitz, breakfast included.

Day 7 – Ride on Danube ship and trip home
After a hearty breakfast, you walk down to the landing stage in Spitz, which is close to the cable ferry.
