The romantic market town of Mühldorf in the district of Krems-Land lies in the climatically favorable valley basin of the Spitzbachtal. Here, the shady foothills of the rustling forests of the Waldviertel combine with the sunny, atmospheric landscape of the Wachau. Thanks to its proximity to the Wachau, Mühldorf is the ideal starting point for excursions to Melk, Göttweig, Dürnstein or Krems. Mühldorf: the most beautiful sights

A special feature is Oberranna Castle: the hilltop castle probably dates back to before 1070. Its combination of a very mighty fortified church and the significantly smaller castle stands out. Also worth seeing are the baroque Prandhof Castle, the Niederranna St. Margaretha Catholic parish church and the Trenninghof, which was first mentioned in a document in 1302.

Mühldorf for families: bakery museum & adventure pool

The lovingly designed bakery museum in Mühldorf shows the life of a baker over several centuries. Bread is still baked once a month in the clay oven from 1625. In summer, the fantastic Mühldorf adventure pool - nestled in the green Wachau landscape - beckons.

Tips for hikers and cyclists

The municipality can be hiked on several stages of the Welterbesteig Wachau - Wachau World Heritage Trail - such as on route 05 from Mühldorf to Maria Laach or on stage 06 from Raxendorf to Mühldorf. A tip for bikers with a medium level of difficulty is the high-altitude tour of the Mühldorf route: the panoramic circular tour leads over 30 kilometers from the Wachau to the Waldviertel and back again.
