In 1842, at the instigation of the Pradhof estate, a wooden lookout tower was erected on the Jauerling for the first time. On August 24, 1842, three Archdukes of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, who were still boys, enjoyed the view from this lookout.
This wooden lookout tower offers a fantastic panoramic view from the Danube valley over the Dunkelsteinerwald forest to the Alps and the southern Waldviertel. Visit the renovated old lookout with its herb and nostalgia museum inside. There is also a herb garden, which is well worth a visit!
Access to the Jauerling by car from Schallemmersdorf via Maria Laach or from Spitz via Gut am Steg to Oberndorf am Jauerling. Sufficient parking spaces are available directly in front of the control room.
